An oil tanker carrying 16 crew members capsized off Oman cost. All the 16 crew members, including 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans, are missing. The vessel turned turtle 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, close to the Omani port of Duqm, on Monday. The sultanate's Maritime Security Centre (MSC) reported the incident through its X handle.
Incident Update: Oil Tanker "Prestige Falcon"
The Oman MSC updated the details of the incident on X. It confirmed the identity of Comoros flagged oil tanker as "Prestige Falcon". It further claimed that the search operation for the 16 missing crew members is ongoing. The post said, "Search and rescue operation continues in an effort to rescue the missing crew."
The Oman's MSC told Reuters that the 'Prestige Falcon' remains submerged and inverted. However, MSC has not confirmed if the vessel stabilized after capsizing or whether the oil or oil products are leaking into the sea.
The port of Duqm is situated on the southwest coast of Oman, near the country's significant oil and gas extraction sites, including a large oil refinery that is part of Duqm's extensive industrial zone, the largest economic project in Oman.
The data showed the vessel is a 117-metre-long oil products tanker built in 2007, which was headed for the Yemeni port city of Aden.
