Amid the worsening relationship between India and Canada over the investigation of the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is facing strong pushback from his party. 24 Canadian MPs have warned Trudeau of the consequences, if he doesn’t step down from his position by October 28.

Lawmakers from his party asked him not to run the government for the fourth time. One of the MPs, Ken Mc Donald said that the PM needs to start listening to the public.

According to a report by AP, three Liberal MPs asserted that they are among the 20 MPs who signed the agreement urging PM Trudeau to step down from his position before the next election. However, some MPs supported Trudeau but advised him to take the feedback seriously.

After meeting Liberal members of the parliament, a smiling Trudeau said, “Party members are ‘strong and united’, and he will be leading the party until the next election, which is scheduled for October 2025.

Another Minister and Trudeau ally Marc Miller said, “What was happening there ... is really about MPs telling the prime minister the truth, whether he likes to hear it or not.”

After finishing the meeting with Liberal members he didn’t take many questions from the reporters, making the claims strong that his party wants him to step down from the position.

"Currently, there's quite a bit of palace drama happening, which distracts us from our main priority: focusing on Canadians," stated Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault, a member of the Liberal Party. Not all Liberal MPs have voiced their support for Trudeau.

In a recent by-election in Toronto and Montreal, Trudeau's party faced a significant setback, losing ground in districts it has historically held, while a Nanos poll revealed the Conservatives leading the Liberals 38% to 25%.

The federal election could take place anytime from this fall to October 2025. The Liberals need support from at least one major party in Parliament since they don't have a majority.
