As for the 20-year-old who tried to kill Trump on Saturday, officials stated that they are unaware of any relation to this Iranian plan. As per the confirmation of a US national security official, the Trump campaign and the US Secret Service were informed about the Iranian threat, leading to an increase in security.

Officials in charge of national security claim that weeks before the attempt on the life of the former US president on Saturday, the United States had information from a human source of an Iranian plot to murder Donald Trump. Consequently, Trump was subject to heightened security protocols.

Since a drone attack in 2020 that killed Qassim Soleimani, the commander of Iran's Quds unit in Iraq, Trump and his former secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, have been the target of threats from Tehran.

Security Concerns and Responses

According to US Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the agency and others were "constantly receiving new potential threat information and taking action to adjust resources as needed." He said, "We cannot comment on any specific threat stream, other than to say that the Secret Service takes threats seriously and responds accordingly."

The National Security Council of the White House spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, stated that US security personnel had been "tracking Iranian threats against former Trump administration officials for years."

The Iranian delegation to the UN said that Trump "is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law," dismissing the story as "unsubstantiated and malicious."

On Monday (local time), former president Donald Trump attended the Republican National Convention for the first time since he narrowly avoided being killed on Saturday.

Incident Details and Secret Service Response

With a white bandage covering his right ear, Trump nodded to the crowd and was met with a standing ovation. During the convention, he stood behind Senator JD Vance, his just declared running mate, without saying anything.

On Saturday, when Trump was speaking at a campaign event, bullets were fired, causing Secret Service members to rush the stage. Trump claimed that the bullet had perforated the top portion of his right ear hours after the incident. Two additional protest participants suffered serious injuries in the shooting, and one rally participant lost their life.

The gunman, a 20-year-old Pennsylvanian named Thomas Matthew Crooks, was recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
