Elon Musk is planning to re-create an entire town called Snailbrook, situated on 3,500 to 6,000 acres in Texas, making it futuristic and tech-driven.
The town aims to serve as a live-work community for employees of Musk's companies, including Boring Co. and SpaceX.
Snailbrook, Texas, established in 2021, is a community in the Austin area, inspired by Elon Musk's ambitious vision for future urban development. With a current population of about 12, the town is set to grow significantly as Musk expands his operations, having acquired around 6,000 acres for Tesla, SpaceX, and The Boring Company.
The Boring Company, known for its snail mascot, is exploring plans for affordable housing for workers, with executives discussing the creation of an entire self-sufficient city.
As construction progresses, Snailbrook aims to become a hub of innovation and technology, reflecting the transformative potential of its foundational vision.
The name "Snailbrook" is inspired by the mascot of Musk’s tunneling company, the Boring Co. The town is envisioned to offer below-market rents, with more than 100 homes, a pool, and outdoor sports facilities.
By establishing this town, Musk intends to remove bureaucratic hurdles and implement his regulations, allowing for a more streamlined operational environment. It offers employees affordable housing options, with rents starting around $800 a month significantly lower than the area's median rent of $2,200.
The move to Texas aligns with Musk's broader strategy to take advantage of the state's business-friendly environment, including lighter regulations and no corporate income tax.
The decision to relocate many operations to Texas was influenced by frustrations with California’s regulations and restrictions. While plans for incorporation have been discussed, Bastrop County officials noted that no formal application has yet been submitted.
