Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India supports the growth of BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) to include new nations and is prepared to proceed forward on the consensus issue, "We must make our societies future-ready to make BRICS future-ready," PM Modi said at the five-nation summit.

"New Development Bank of Brics playing an important role in the development of Global South," he added.

He praised South Africa for the initiative as the chair of the BRICS summit. PM Modi said, “We welcome the move to give special importance to the countries of the Global South in BRICS under the chairmanship of South Africa. This is not just the aspiration, but also the need of the present times. India has also given significance to this subject under its G20 presidency.
