Israel announces ‘new phase in war’ following deadly walkie-talkie blasts in Lebanon

The latest vicious attack took place only a day after 12 individuals were killed and over 2800 others injured in the pager attack.

Synchronized attacks on Lebanon’s communication assets, referred to as the Walkie-Talkie Blast, took place with severe consequences for those assets. Police said that at least twenty individuals were killed and more than four hundred and fifty others were injured in the most recent assaults, a report by Al Jazeera stated.

The latest vicious attack took place only a day after 12 individuals were killed and over 2800 others injured in the coordinated explosion of pagers in Lebanon. On the other hand, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that a ‘new chapter’ in the war has begun and stressed that the ‘area of confrontation’ is now the north.

Gallant expressed his views on X and stated, “We are at the start of a new phase in the war—we are allocating resources and forces to the northern arena, and our mission is clear: ensuring the safe return of Israel’s northern communities to their homes. To do so, the security situation must be changed.”

Earlier on Wednesday, tens of Lebanese Red Cross paramedics were involved in the operation of rescuing and treating the injured after sudden blasts in Lebanon via the aid of walkie-talkies, as relayed by CNN news. More than 30 teams of the Lebanese Red Cross emergency medical services were operating in south Lebanon, southern Beirut, and the central Bekaa region. Moreover, 50 ambulances went on standby for evacuation purposes across Mount Lebanon and Beirut, among other activities.

The Lebanese Civil Defense had stated that it was in the process of putting out fires that had begun after the walkie-talkies exploded; 60 houses and shops caught fire, including one lithium battery shop. Up to 15 automobiles and thousands of motorcycles and scooters, as well as two fingerprint devices in the Nabatieh Governorate.

Earlier today, the Lebanese Ministry of Health ordered health sectors to pull up a shift to work due to the large number of injured people being transferred to the hospitals following pager blasts, according to CNN. People have also been advised to come forward and give blood, as it was thought there would be a high demand. On Tuesday, Hezbollah accused Israel of causing the pager explosions and assured revenge. At the same time, the officials of Lebanon were calling citizens who have pagers to dispose of them.
