Kamala Harris’ ancestral town in Tamil Nadu celebrates her US Presidential campaign 

Residents in US Vice President Kamala Harris’s ancestral village of Thulasendrapuram, Tamil Nadu, are celebrating her endorsement by US President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s Presidential nominee for the upcoming US Presidential campaign in November. After the announcement, villagers adorned the village in Tiruvarur district with several posters of the United States Vice President Kamala Harris. The endorsement has sparked excitement and pride among the locals, who view her as one of their own—a symbol of what is possible for women everywhere.

Kamala Harris, born to a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, has strong ties to Thulasendrapuram. Her maternal grandfather, PV Gopalan, was a former diplomat and a native of the village. During the 2020 US Presidential elections, villagers across Tiruvarur district put up posters wishing Kamala Harris success. They held special prayers, seeking her victory, especially after Joe Biden chose her as his running mate. The village celebrated her previous election victories as well.

Village Support During the US Presidential Campaign

Joe Biden, on July 21, announced his withdrawal from the nomination for re-election as the President of the United States. In a post on social media, he expressed his confidence in Kamala Harris, calling her the best decision he made during the 2020 campaign. He endorsed her as the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, urging Democrats to unite and defeat Donald Trump. The US Presidential election is scheduled for November 5.

In response, Kamala Harris expressed gratitude for Joe Biden’s leadership and accepted his endorsement. She pledged to work tirelessly to unite the Democratic Party and the nation, aiming to defeat Trump and his extreme Project 2025.

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. I am honored to have the President’s endorsement, and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025,” Kamala Harris tweeted.
