According to an officer quoted by news agency PTI, the West Bengal CID on Thursday night detained one individual in connection with the purported "murder" of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, allegedly honey-trapped.

According to a recent development in the investigation, the police believe that the Bangladesh MP may have been "lured" by a woman into a flat in New Town, whereupon she was slain by contract murderers.

The individual in custody is a resident of a West Bengali neighbourhood near the Bangladeshi border.

The detained person had met one of the primary suspects in the murder case, the officer said, and the current investigation is trying to figure out what the two of them had said and why.

Anwarul Azim Anar was a legislator from Bangladesh who represented the Jhenaidah-4 constituency for the ruling Awami League. Asaduzzaman Khan, the home minister of Bangladesh, announced earlier on Wednesday that three persons had been arrested after the MP went missing in Kolkata on May 13 and was later found killed.

Speaking on the case, the Police said, “Investigation indicated that the Bangladeshi parliamentarian fell into a honey-trap laid by a woman who was also close to the victim's friend. It seems, Anar was lured into the New Town flat by the woman. We suspect he was murdered soon after he went to the flat," as quoted by PTI.

The senior police official went on to say that the CID is currently reviewing CCTV footage that showed Anar entering the flat with a guy and a woman.

Calling it a well planned murder, police said, “A huge amount of money, around ₹5 crore, was paid by an old friend of the MP to the contract killers to execute the crime." "In the CCTV footage, the politician was seen entering the flat with the two persons. The duo was later seen coming out and again re-entering the flat the next day but the MP was not seen again," the officer told PTI.

The sources also stated that there was proof Akhtaruzzaman hired Amanullah, who was apprehended in Dhaka on Tuesday night, to assassinate Azim after the two recently had a falling out over business issues.

Then, Amanullah hired Mustafizur and Faisal for the position. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an officer stated that they were also arrested yesterday.

For the same reason, Akhtaruzzaman also employed Jihad and Siam, two other people who entered India without passports.

Amanullah was once a leader of the Purbo Banglar Communist Party, according to the police. He spent twenty years in prison for two murder convictions.
