Australians, Canadians, and Americans will need a visa in order to enter Brazil as of January 10, 2024. For around eighty dollars, one can obtain multiple access for a ten-year period (although Canadians and Australians are only granted five years).

Foreigners will need a flight reservation with arrival and departure times in order to apply electronically. They will also need two free visa pages, a bank statement with the last 30 days' transactions and a balance of at least $2,000. Brazil had issued a warning about the renewal of the visa requirement, which was originally scheduled to take effect on October 1 but was postponed.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ("Lula")'s gesture is symbolic to Cleavon Little pointing a gun to his own head in Blazing Saddles. Brazil is going to restrict tourist and business trips to their home nation if visa requirements are not eliminated by the US. There is no doubt that the United States makes it absurdly difficult to enter their country legally, therefore Brazil will make it unconventionally challenging (although not as tough) in return.

However, the trouble and cost of the visa are not the main issue for Americans, but the requirement to provide a bank statement.
