Imagine a village of just one family. Where handling one spouse and two children feels like a big responsibility. But can you imagine managing 20 wives and over 100 children? In a small Tanzanian village, a man named Mzee Ernesto Muinuchi Kapinga has built an extraordinary family that has shocked the world.
Kapinga has been married 20 times, and he currently lives with 16 of his wives under one roof. Sadly, four of his wives have passed away. However, the huge family still lives together peacefully, just like a small village where everyone gets along. His unique lifestyle has made him famous worldwide.
Married at his father’s request
According to Oddity Central, Kapinga started this incredible journey back in 1961, when he had his first marriage and welcomed his first child. His father encouraged him to marry more women and even provided money for the dowries. Over time, Kapinga expanded his family, and today he has 104 children and 144 grandchildren.
This big family is very well organised. They cook a lot of food at once, like a big feast that never ends. Even though the family is so large, no one fights or argues. Everyone lives together peacefully and happily.
Married to seven real sisters
Kapinga’s father financed his first five marriages, but he arranged the rest on his own. Among his 16 current wives, seven are real sisters. These women say they chose to marry Kapinga because of his good reputation.
Each wife has her own house and cooks separately, but they all farm, work, and eat together. Rather than just a home, this massive household runs like a well-organised community.
Having such a big family is very difficult in today's world. Managing expenses, education, and healthcare for everyone is challenging. Equal facilities need proper planning, shared responsibilities, and strong financial support.
