Monk Amogh Lila Das has been banned for making an inappropriate comment on Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramhans by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon).
The one-month ban implemented on Tuesday comes after the Brahmachari monk made inappropriate comments on the teachings of the two highly revered figures in Indian history and spiritually.
Monk Amogh Das is, also, infamous for calling Lord Shiva a demigod and expressing that frustrated Lord Shiva devotees finally arrive at Lord Shree Krishna’s door.
Recently, addressing a crowd of bhakts, Amogh Lila Das questioned the righteousness of Swami Vivekananda in eating fish, adding that a virtuous man would never consume anything that harms an animal. Monk Amogh further took a dig at Swami Vivekananda’s guru, Ramakrishna Paramhans.
The spiritual leader said, “Will a virtuous man ever eat fish? A fish also feels pain, right? Will a virtuous man eat fish then?”
“We’re very much pained by Amogh Lila Das’s ‘inappropriate and unacceptable comments and his lack of understanding about the great teachings of these two personalities,” said Iskcon in a press release.
Amogh Lila Das has begged for forgiveness for his comments, but realising his great disservice, he has taken a vow to go on ‘prayaschit’ (atonement) for one month in the hills of Govardhan, the statement further added.
