North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly carried his own toilet to China while attending a military parade. The parade marked the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II, and Russian President Vladimir Putin was also in attendance.

According to South Korean and Japanese intelligence, the bulletproof trainKim used to reach Beijing comes with a private lavatory, which he alone uses during the trip. Officials say this is done to prevent anyone from collecting his DNA to learn about his health.

This is not the first time Kim has brought his own toilet on an international trip.

  • In 2018, a toilet was provided for him during a North-South summit near the military border with South Korea.

  • Later that year, it was flown to Singapore for the US-North Korea summit.

A former North Korean Guard Command employee told The Washington Post in 2022 that the regime fears dedicated sewer divers might access the supreme leader's stools.

Experts say Kim’s physical condition is closely linked to the stability of the North Korean regime. Since he is overweight, he may face health risks such as heart disease, and if his DNA fell into the wrong hands, it could spark speculation about his health and potential regime instability.

Even within North Korea, Kim reportedly takes his own toilet and bathroom to military facilities and state-owned factories. His hair, saliva, utensils, and hotel rooms are also carefully guarded and cleaned to prevent leaving behind any trace of his body.

During his 2019 trip to Hanoi for the US-North Korea summit, a photo of Kim smoking on a train in southern China went viral. His sister, Kim Yo Jong, was seen standing nearby with an ashtray.

These precautions show how Kim’s team closely monitors every aspect of his hygiene and personal items to protect sensitive information about his health.
