A shocking incident happened at a restaurant in China, making many people upset and worried about food safety. On March 13, a two-year-old boy peed into a glass while having a meal with his family at Fuyuanju Restaurant in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. A customer named Tang, who was eating nearby, shared what happened.
What happened at the restaurant?
According to Tang, the boy was having a meal with his mother and two elderly relatives. She described how the boy stood up from his seat, pulled down his trousers, and urinated into a glass that was meant for serving customers, not a disposable one.
“When the boy said he wanted to urinate, one elderly individual went to get a bin, suggesting the boy pee there. But the boy’s mother said, ‘Just let him pee directly into the glass,’” Tang explained.
Tang, who was seated nearby, said the smell of urine lingered at the table. She and her friends asked a restaurant worker to remove the glass. The boy’s mother apologised to the worker, saying, “We are sorry that the kid could not really hold it any more. So he peed in the cup.”
Tang later spoke to the restaurant’s owner, asking for a discount or free fruit as an apology. The owner refused and accused Tang of causing trouble. After an argument, Tang paid her bill of 316 yuan (about Rs 3,700) and left.
Authorities launched an investigation, but the restaurant staff had already thrown away the glass. After mediation, the owner apologised and refunded Tang’s money. They also offered 1,000 yuan (over Rs 11,000) in compensation, which Tang declined.
Another shocking food safety incident
This wasn’t the only recent food safety scandal in China. A few days earlier, a disturbing video from Haidilao, a famous restaurant chain in Shanghai, went viral. The video showed a young man urinating into a pot of boiling broth.
The footage caused outrage online. Haidilao apologised publicly, saying they were “extremely sorry” and promised legal action against those involved. They also compensated customers who had dined at that outlet, reportedly spending tens of millions of Yuan.
These incidents have sparked strong reactions from the public, highlighting the importance of food safety and hygiene in restaurants.
