A 16-year-old boy tragically ended his life in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Sunday after his mother refused to buy him a mobile phone. The incident took place in the Tisgaon area and has once again brought attention to rising cases of youth suicides over gadgets.
The boy, identified as Atharva Gopal Tayde, had been requesting a phone from his mother for several days. “The boy, identified as Atharva Gopal Tayde, had been asking his mother to buy him a phone for days. However, she refused every time.” Atharva was reportedly preparing for the police recruitment examination, officials confirmed.
On the day of the incident, Atharva again asked his mother for a phone. When she denied the request, he went to a nearby hill in Tisgaon and jumped. Locals who witnessed the incident rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
This is not the first time Maharashtra has witnessed such a tragedy. “Maharashtra witnessed a similar incident last year when a 15-year-old boy died by suicide after his mother refused to get him a mobile phone on his birthday.” Another case involved an 18-year-old boy who died in Navi Mumbai after his father bought him a low-cost phone instead of an iPhone worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
