Hyderabad-based startup Hylenr has launched a groundbreaking low-energy nuclear reactor (LENR) that can sit on a tabletop and generate enough household energy. This innovation marks the world's first tabletop nuclear reactor and cold fusion technology designed to produce clean energy.
The product was unveiled in Hyderabad by Padma Shri Dr. Prahlada Ramarao, a renowned missile scientist and project director for the Akash missile system. He was joined by Dr. Varaprasad, Hylenr’s chief scientific officer, Ram Ramaseshan, the chief strategic officer, and Siddharth Durairajan, the chief executive officer. The Government of India has patented the technology.
Hylenr’s reactor amplifies heat through nuclear fusion, the same process that powers the sun. By combining hydrogen molecules, the reactor generates excess heat that can be used for various applications, such as heating rooms in cold regions, induction heating for domestic and industrial needs, and steam production.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Ramarao addressed common fears associated with nuclear fusion, explaining, “We are simply combining hydrogen, nickel, and palladium to produce excess energy. The reactor body is made of stainless steel, and the process emits no radiation or harmful emissions.”
LENR generates excess heat by applying a small amount of electricity to stimulate nuclear reactions. This results in significantly more heat output than the input energy, making it a promising technology for power generation.
During a live demonstration at the product launch, the reactor achieved a consistent heat amplification ratio of 1.5x, producing 150 watts of heat from a 100-watt electrical input. Dr. Ramarao noted, “This impressive heat amplification ratio has been the defining feature of our product throughout its development. The results have been consistent across hundreds of trials. Scientists from IIT Guwahati, IISc Bangalore, and Amity University have tested our product in their labs and confirmed these results.”
The cost to produce each reactor is Rs 1 lakh. Durairajan shared that Hylenr has invested the past decade in developing this patented technology and plans to raise funds to accelerate its commercialization. The advanced research and development facility for HYLENR is located at T-HUB in Hyderabad, with another development center in Electronic City, Bengaluru.
