As per a reports, WhatsApp is working on a new video playback control feature that allow users to easily skip forward and rewind videos, similar to YouTube. This much-anticipated feature is currently being tested and is expected to roll out to all users soon.

The YouTube-style video controls allow users to tap the screen to bring up the playback controls and then tap the left or right side to skip back or ahead 10 seconds in the video. This gives users more precise control over video navigation compared to dragging the progress bar.

Initial Testing on Android

As per WABetaInfo, the video playback controls were first spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.24.6. This suggests the feature is currently in the testing phase and available only to select beta testers using the latest beta version.

Given that the playback controls are being tested, likely plans to roll out the feature to a broader audience once testing is complete. The timeline for the public release is not yet known, but it's expected in the coming weeks or months.

The new controls allow for a more seamless video viewing experience within WhatsApp. Users no longer need to exit the app to get precise navigation options offered by platforms like YouTube.

Part of Recent Feature Additions

WhatsApp has been actively developing and releasing new features lately, including alternate ways to share voice notes, stickers in chats, multi-device support and more. The video playback controls align with their efforts to improve in-app functions.

WhatsApp

Overall, the YouTube-like video navigation functionality introduces a simpler way to scan through videos on WhatsApp. Though limited to select Android beta testers for now, wider availability can be expected soon as WhatsApp continues enhancing the messaging experience for users.
