WhatsApp has introduced support for sharing high-definition (HD) photos and videos for all its users after initially testing the features with beta testers. This allows users to share media in original quality without compression losses.

How to Send HD Videos and Images on WhatsApp

To send HD videos/photos on WhatsApp, users need to first select the file they want to share from their camera roll. Before hitting send, they can tap on the 'HD' icon on the top bar. This will open options to switch from standard quality to HD. The steps are:

  • Open WhatsApp chat
  • Tap attachment icon
  • Select video/image to share
  • Tap 'HD' button on top right
  • Choose HD quality
  • Hit done

When recipients get the HD video, they will see a notification that it is a high resolution video.

Significance of HD Video Sharing

With this update, users can now share videos without compression and in full quality, as long as the file size is under the 100MB limit. This eliminates the need to use external links for sharing videos.

The feature brings WhatsApp on par with other messaging platforms in terms of media sharing capabilities. This could be especially beneficial for business users who want to share high quality videos with customers and partners.

However, users must note that sharing HD videos will consume more data and storage space. A stable WiFi connection is recommended for HD video sharing.

WhatsApp's parent company Meta has been actively enhancing the messaging app with new features to make it more competitive.

Some key recent additions include - support for multi-device connectivity, voice calling support on web, joinable group calls, in-chat polls, message reactions, and communities.

Meta also launched on macOS, enabling video calls with up to 8 people and screen sharing. More productivity-focused features are expected in the future.
