A new service called Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) was launched to help mobile users stay connected even when their network signal drops. This service lets BSNL, Jio, and Airtel users make calls and use 4G data by connecting to any available network, even if their own network signal is weak.

How it works

The ICR service works by allowing mobile companies to share towers built with the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) funding. If a user’s network is not available, their phone will automatically switch to another network at the same tower. This means that BSNL, Jio, and Airtel users will have access to the best available signal, no matter which network owns the tower.

This new service helps people in villages and far-off areas stay connected. The government wants to provide 4G coverage to 35,000 villages using 27,000 mobile towers. This will make education, healthcare, and business easier in areas with poor connectivity.

Before this service, only one telecom company could use each tower. Now, users of BSNL, Jio, or Airtel can all use the same towers. This change means people will have fewer dropped calls and better internet speeds, even in places where their regular network didn’t work well.

Benefits for consumers

For mobile users, this means they will have better service and a more reliable connection, even in places where the signal is weak. Since different telecom companies will share towers, there will be fewer towers needed, which can help reduce costs for the companies over time.
