Gemini has introduced a new feature that allows it to remember specific details about a user’s preferences and interests. This upgrade is available in the latest version of the AI chatbot that allows users to ask Gemini to retain personal information, which will influence its responses in future interactions. Currently, this feature is accessible only to premium members through the Gemini chatbot app and website.

A popular feature that people want in AI models is memory. With this, the AI can remember details about you, so you don’t have to repeat them every time. It can remember things like your name, birthday, job, or how you like it to respond. Without this memory, chatbots can’t feel like real helpers or companions, since each conversation starts from scratch.

This shortcoming in artificial intelligence was recently identified by experts, who began developing a feature to address it. A similar feature was updated to ChatGPT by OpenAI earlier this year. Similar features are also offered by chatbots from other major companies, such as Microsoft and Anthropic.

The tech giant recently introduced a new feature called "Saved Info," as outlined on its updates page. With this feature, users can instruct Gemini to remember their preferences and interests. You can either manually add details on the Saved Info page or simply say "Remember" or "Do not forget" before sharing the information.

Once the information is stored in Gemini, it will remember it for all future interactions. Besides this, users can use this feature to organize and personalize the AI chatbot's responses. According to Google, any information users share with Gemini can be viewed, edited, or deleted. The AI chatbot will also display the saved information on the screen whenever it uses it.

The company has not revealed whether the AI will learn from the data provided through Saved Info or if it can simply access it. It’s also unclear whether deleting a piece of data from Saved Info will remove it from Google’s servers. Currently, Gemini Advanced subscribers can use this feature in English. The membership is available through the Google One AI Premium Plan, which is an important detail.
