A group of current and former employees at major artificial intelligence companies released an open letter on Tuesday. The letter raised concerns about the lack of safety oversight in the industry and called for better protection for whistleblowers.
The 13 individuals who signed the proposal are current and former employees of OpenAI and Google DeepMind. While they acknowledge AI's positive impact, they are concerned that without proper precautions, AI could lead to various negative consequences. One of the signatories, Daniel Kokotajlo, expressed his fear and reasons for leaving OpenAI in April due to doubts about the company's responsible handling of its technology. To address these issues, the former employees have proposed four key principles for AI companies. These principles aim to promote transparency and accountability in AI development, including measures to prevent retaliation against employees for voicing concerns and establishing mechanisms for anonymous reporting.
