Elon Musk has now revealed that he plans to turn X to a dating app where he would allow users to meet potential dates and converse with interesting people. This, however, doesn’t come in as a surprise as Elon Musk has for long talked about his vision for X and how he wants to transform it. Which is also the reason why he bought it in the first place.
Ever since, acquiring X, then Twitter, last year for $44 billion, Musk has made quite a few changes, starting with the mass lay offs he made in order to make the company more efficient. So far, Musk has brought in the option of sharing long-form tweets and videos on the app with more features such as video calling, voice calling, payments, and job-searching to come on the app pretty soon, which will turn X into an app which facilitates everything, from dating to business.
As per a report in ‘The Verge’, Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino held their first all-hands internal meeting with its employees where Musk confirmed that X Dating will be a reality with the hope to change the online dating situation. "There’s already some stuff happening to some degree. But I think we might be able to improve the dating situation. Part of it is how do you discover interesting people? Discovery is tough," Musk said.
During the meeting, Musk expressed his desire for X to compete with various apps like LinkedIn, YouTube, FaceTime and even dating apps. Talking about how hiring on X takes place and what people post on the platform matters, Musk said, "I would place more emphasis on what somebody has posted in the past on the X platform than anything else. Have they posted interesting material? That would be probably the single biggest indicator for whether they are excellent and someone you’d want to hire."
Yaccarino said, "We have to take a moment and think about what we’ve done in just a year. The advancements we’ve made in video, growing our communities, our creator program, X Hiring. I don’t know about you, but some of you may have been victims to all my video calling last night. It doesn’t stop. And with payments around the corner, I think it’s pretty exciting to say that there’s no surrogate for X, which is why everyone watches our every move." Elon Musk, adding to Yaccarino's statement, said, "And copies us."
