Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, recently revealed during a conference call with investors that the company's humanoid robot, which is currently in development, might be available for purchase by the end of next year. Musk also mentioned that the robot, named Optimus, could begin performing tasks in factories as early as the end of this year, according to Reuters.

As most companies are willing to work with humanoid robots to help shortage of labour and simple matter of copying the task in fields like logistics, warehouse, retailing, production etc.Brands like Boston Dynamics who is now owned by Hyundai Motor Company and Japan's Honda are dedicating their efforts on humanoid robots to make jobs safer in hazardous settings and heighten efficiency throughout the sectors that include the shipping, storage, manufacturing, and retail.

Tesla is striving to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate quick decision-making directly within the robot, setting itself up as a potential frontrunner in the humanoid robot industry. Speaking about Optimus' AI-driven capabilities, Musk stated “I think Tesla is best positioned of any humanoid robot maker to be able to reach volume production with efficient inference on the robot itself.”

In addition, there are many other companies that are going ahead with this kind of innovative technology. For instance, Figure, a startup with investors from Microsoft and Nvidia, have deployed their humanoid robots at the US facilities run by BMW. In February, Figure had a video that showed the capabilities of their 01 robot that can make coffee. In addition Boston Dynamics, an engineering and robotics design company based in the United states and established in 1992 also belongs to innovators as we have seen in the last week with their type electric platform for their Atlas humanoid robot. The video presented the robot moving gracefully from the lying up to the standing up and walking. This demonstrates the intriguing agility and potential of the machine.

Elon Musk's positive predictions about Tesla's robot sales have attracted some skepticism, since he has already had some similar experiences, like the 'robotaxi' network, which didn't bring exactly the results he expected. Despite this, Tesla continues to believe that humanoid robots could play an important part in the company's future. Tesla’s Humanoid robot 'Bumblebee' was first made public in September 2022. Now, in 2024, they announced a second generation optimized version in action through a video that illustrates folding a T-shirt right at Tesla's factory. Tesla's move here indicates the company's continuous determination to lead innovation. Coming Optimus robots are a big step in the process of applying robotic technology in more and more fields.
