ChatGPT gets an update: GPT-4o is smarter and can talk like humans

Unlike GPT 4, this model will be free to access however, the premium members will get "up to five times the capacity limits” of free users.

Mira Murati, the chief technology officer of Open Ai uneviled the new and updated AI model ChatGPT 4o (where o stands for omni). The launch took place in Open AI’s Spring Update event hosted in their US office, on Monday. The new model will be more smarter than the previous version emphasizing on “much faster” responses.

Unlike the GPT 4, this model will be free to access however, the premium members will get “up to five times the capacity limits” of free users, said Murati.

Murati mentioned the advancement in audio capabilities allowing the AI model to talk like humans with real-time voice and audio features, she added that, “continuing our iterative deployment to bring all the capabilities to you.”

Murati said, “This is the first time that we are really making a huge step forward when it comes to the ease of use.”

The new model will allow the users to upload screenshots, and documents which was only allowed to the paying users. Free users were only allowed to chat wit the AI bot via texts. Murati said the free model will influence greater audience.

The users will also get access to a memory feature through which the AI bot can recollect the past conversation allowing it to maintain a continuity in the conversation. An additional feature of browsing is also added to give an option to search in the real time conversation.

Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has become the fastest-growing consumer app in history, with a huge number of users( approximately 100 million) per week. The AI sector has experienced an unmatched investment last year, with a record $29.1 billion invested into approximately 700 deals.

Murati showed her concern over safety announcing GPT 4o. “We continue to work with different stakeholders out there like government, media, red streamers, and civil society to figure out how to best bring this technology to the world.”
