Prime Minister Narendra Modi just inaugurated 5G services in India, marking the beginning of the use of the next generation network in the country.

The telecom operator, at its annual general meet (AGM) 2022 event earlier this year, announced that it will start rolling out 5G services in a phased manner.

The 13 cities where 5G networks will come first include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.

The rest of India’s cities, towns and villages will get access to the next-gen network over the following months and within two to three years, 5G network is set to come to the entirety of India.

Recently, 51,236 MHz of 5G airwaves were auctioned and allocated by the telecom department to telcos and the government garnered a gross revenue of ₹1,50,173 crore.

The Ministry of Communications recently said that " 5G to be launched by the Prime Minister in select cities will progressively cover the entire country over the next couple of years. The cumulative economic impact of 5G on India is expected to reach $450 billion by 2035.”

The launch of 5G services in India, the world's second-biggest smartphone market after China, follows years of intense preparation and it will increase energy efficiency, spectrum efficiency and network efficiency in multifold figures.
