After the T20 World Cup win, the Indian cricket team arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning, flying in from Barbados on a special Air India chartered plane.
After waiting for three days on the Caribbean island following their T20 World Cup victory, the triumphant players finally returned home with the trophy. The BCCI shared a video showcasing the moment the players disembarked from the plane with the trophy.
A large crowd of fans greeted the team at the airport. Captain Rohit Sharma headed out from the airport holding the trophy, while Virat Kohli received an enthusiastic welcome and waved to the supporters, acknowledging their cheers.
Despite the lengthy 18-hour journey, the team's arrival was eagerly awaited by fans who had been queuing since late the previous night to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. Special arrangements were made to welcome the team at both the airport and their hotel.
A special cake designed to resemble the World Cup Trophy was prepared for the team and was set to be cut upon their arrival at the hotel. Additionally, welcome drinks in the colors of the national tricolour were ready for the entire team.
After a special meeting with the Prime Minister, the team would fly to Mumbai for a roadshow from Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium, where they would be honored.

India triumphed over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday, with Rohit Sharma becoming the second Indian captain, after MS Dhoni, to win the T20 World Cup. This victory also ended an 11-year drought for an ICC trophy in men's cricket for India.
In the final match at Kensington Oval in Barbados, India posted a total of 176 runs, with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 76. The bowlers then took charge, and despite South Africa being in a strong position needing just 30 runs from 30 balls, Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling in the final overs secured the win for India.
Following the victory, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is. It also marked the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure as the team's coach.
