Satwiksairaj Rankireddy creates Guinness record for fastest smash, faster than Formula 1 car

Indian badminton star player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy has broken the Guinness world record for the fastest hit by a male player in badminton. During an event at the Yonex factory gymnasium in Soka, Japan, Satwik’s smash reached an incredible speed of 565 km/h. This feat surpasses the previous record set in 2013 by Malaysian Tan Boon Heong, whose smash was recorded at 493 km/h.

Together with his partner Chirag Shetty, Satwik secured victory at the prestigious Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament, showcasing his skills on the court. The duo has been making records in the badminton world, and this new world record adds another achievement.

Satwik’s record-breaking smash even outpaced the top speed of a Formula 1 car, which reaches 372.6 km/h. Such an incredible hit highlights the power possessed by these athletes. Meanwhile, Malaysian badminton player Tan Pearly also has her name in the Guinness World Records by achieving a speed of 438 km/h in the female category.

Japanese sports equipment manufacturing company, Yonex, expressed immense pride in their sponsored athletes, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Tan Pearly, for their outstanding achievements. The Guinness World Records title was officially confirmed and awarded to the athletes after verification by judges on April 14, 2023.

This accomplishment is a moment of pride for India. Satwik’s success demonstrates the incredible potential and talent that exists within the country. His achievement is even more commendable as it marks the first time in over a decade that the previous Guinness World Record was broken.
