Prithvi Shaw, the opening batter for the Mumbai cricket team, has been dropped from the squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches.
When the selection committee announced the Mumbai squad for the Ranaji trophy Shaw’s name was nowhere to be seen. In a statement released by the MCA, the senior selection committee consisting of Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti have picked this squad.
Why was he dropped?
It was also reported that Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane didn’t want Shaw in the team.
This decision came regarding his lazy form and indiscipline, which has become a concern and upset the Maharashtra Cricket Association and selection committee.
Despite his subpar performance, it has been stated that he has not been attending the net sessions regularly. Further concerning the selection panel is the fact that he has not been concentrating on improving his fitness. These were some of the factors that caused the authorities to make some difficult decisions.
His response
His reaction to this whole situation was noted through a sarcastic reply to the team’s decision in an Instagram post saying,” Need a break thx.”
Mumbai will be taking on Tripura next on Oct 26 at the MBB stadium in Agartala in their Ranaji Trophy campaign.
As released in the statement the Mumbai squad consists of the following members:
Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Akhil Herwadkar, Shreyas Iyer, Siddhessh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Hardik Tamore (WK), Sidhaant Addhatrao (WK), Shams Mulani, Karsh Kothari, Himanshu Singh, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Avasthi, Mohd. Juned Khan, Royston Dias.
