Dehradun's very own powerlifting star, Prithvi Samrat Sengupta, has achieved a major milestone by winning a bronze medal at the IPF World Open Powerlifting Championship 2024 in Iceland. The exciting news was shared today during a press conference at the Doon Library and Research Center. Prithvi’s proud mother, Niyateey Shah, and his coach, Aman Rai Vohra, were present to announce his remarkable success on the world stage.

At just 18 years old, Prithvi competed in the tough 66 kg weight category and achieved amazing results. He won a silver medal in the squat, a bronze in the deadlift, and earned an overall bronze medal in his category. His performance showed that, despite his young age, he is among the best athletes in the world, proving that age and size don't limit his strength and skills.

Prithvi's mother and coach celebrate his achievements

Prithvi’s mother, Niyateey Shah, was filled with pride as she spoke about her son’s incredible journey. “Prithvi’s story is nothing short of extraordinary,” she said. “Born with Down syndrome, he has defied all expectations and proven that strength and determination have no limits. At the World Championship in Iceland, Prithvi competed against athletes twice his age, and he was the youngest in his category. His strength earned him the nickname ‘Mountain Beast,’ a title that perfectly fits his spirit.”

Prithvi’s coach, Aman Rai Vohra, who is India’s Strongest Man 2018, also praised his hard work and dedication. “This medal is not just a personal achievement for Prithvi; it’s a huge moment for the sports community in Uttarakhand,” he said. “Prithvi is only the second person from the state to win a medal at the World Powerlifting Championship. His journey began just 18 months ago when he moved to Dehradun from Mumbai, and since then, his focus and resilience have inspired many.”

Prithvi is not just a champion powerlifter but also a two-time National Powerlifting Champion. He has won gold medals at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship in South Africa and proudly represented India at the Asian Powerlifting Championships in Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia. With the support of his coach, Prithvi has shown his amazing skills around the world. This bronze medal is just the start of his journey to even greater success.
