Swiggy gifts 1 month free food to a Virat Kohli fan who travelled 1568 km for IPL 2024 eliminator match

On Wednesday, May 22, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosted a thrilling IPL 2024 Eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Despite Virat Kohli’s praise-worthy performance, RCB’s campaign ended with a close four-wicket defeat.
The match, however, was not only about the exciting gameplay but also about a heartwarming incident involving a devoted Kohli fan. This fan’s placard went viral on social media.
The fan’s placard read that he had “travelled approximately 1568 km, using rent and food money, to watch his idol, Virat Kohli, in action.” This incident caught the attention of Swiggy, an online food delivery platform. On Friday, May 24, Swiggy announced their decision to support the Kohli fan by providing him with one month of free food. Swiggy shared a picture of the food they sent and tweeted, “1 month ka Roti, k̶a̶p̶d̶a̶, Makan ka intezam kar diya hai.”

This generous gesture by Swiggy follows another recent incident involving a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fan. This fan claimed he had delayed paying his daughters’ school fees to spend Rs 64,000 on tickets for Chennai’s match against Kolkata in Chepauk.
During Wednesday’s match, the dedicated Kohli fan’s efforts were rewarded as he got to see Kohli bat. However, the star player was dismissed after scoring 33 runs from 24 balls, which included three boundaries and a six. Despite this early dismissal, Kohli achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first player in IPL history to complete 8000 runs. He reached this landmark by completing his 29th run in the 6th over against Sandeep Sharma.
RCB, who had made a remarkable comeback by rising from the bottom of the table after eight matches to win six in a row and secure a playoff spot, were restricted to a total of 172-8 by Rajasthan Royals. The Royals successfully chased the target with six balls to spare, thereby ending RCB’s dream run.
Throughout the season, Virat Kohli has been in impressive form, scoring over 700 runs. Ahead of the match, Kohli received an exciting reception as he made his way to the ground, with a large number of RCB supporters in the stands breaking out in applause at his arrival.
