In another horrific attack on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, a young college student's hand was cut off after a mob of 100 Islamists attacked him near Madarsa in Mathbaria upazila area of Pirojpur.
Shubha Shil, who is also leader of Bangalesh Chhatra League (BCL) a student's political organisation had reportedly had difference in opinions with another leader of the same area Shariful Islam who is the president of the opposition party.
On Tuesday night when Shubha was returning home, a mob of 80 to 100 people lurking in the local Wabia Dakhil Madrasa area (Sluice gate area) launched a surprise attack on him.
After attacking and brutally beating him, the mob apparently spotted the red sacred thread on the right hand of Shubha Shil which provoked them and they with a sharp weapon cut his hand right through the Kalawa.
Later, the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. After the initial treatment, the doctor on duty sent him to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Later, locals recovered Shubhar’s severed wrist from the hospital bridge.
Ferdous Islam the Residential Medical Officer (RMO) at Upazila Health Complex said "Shubh Shil was brought to the hospital with his right wrist severed. Kop was wounded by a sharp weapon in his hand. He has been shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment as his condition is critical."
Shubh Shil is the son of Shyamal Shil of Dakshin Mithakhali village (a Hindu majority village) and general secretary of Chhatra League, ward 3 of Mathbaria municipality which according to the islamists was wrong for a Hindu to attain such a post.
