On Tuesday, A.K Abdul Momen, Bangladesh Finance Minister, was triggered by the remarks given by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah. Momen said that Shah has very little or zero knowledge about the conditions prevailing in Bangladesh. Amit Shah recently commented that poor people of Bangladesh migrate to India for better livelihood as they don’t get necessities over there. Menon says that comments like these might hamper the relations between India and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s Finance Minister told Prothom Alo, a Dhaka based magazine, that people like Shah rarely try to understand the scenario happening over there. "No one dies of hunger in Bangladesh. There is no Monga." Monga is termed seasonal poverty which affects the people living in northern Bangladesh.
In addition to this, Monen says in terms of providing employment opportunities for the semi-educated people, Bangladesh is ahead of India. Although, he did admit to the fact that jobs are scarce for the literate people in his country. He claims that over 1 lakh Indians work in Bangladesh.
He further said that almost 90 per cent of the population in Bangladesh uses latrines which are of decent condition. Compared with that, over or more than 50 per cent of Indians can't afford proper toilets.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah made comments during an interview with Bengali daily AnandaBazar Patrika. He said that in any backward country when development happens, the rich get to enjoy the benefits as compared to the poor ones. He responded when asked about the reason behind the illegal immigration from Bangladesh. He also told them that minority communities are being targeted every single day.
Menon denies any accusations related to communal disharmony, saying all the religious communities will together with peace.
Shah also told them that many of the immigrants have shifted to other parts of India apart from West Bengal. He especially pointed to UT of Jammu and Kashmir where there are lakhs of Rohingya Muslims living over there.
Amit Shah, alongside Prime minister Narender Modi, is rallying in the West Bengal election where they have repeatedly mentioned sacking illegal immigrants residing in West Bengal.
