On Tuesday, August 27, the Uttar Pradesh government unveiled an initiative to boost the state’s presence on platforms while also creating jobs. The Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy 2024 developed by the information department aims to transform the way the state government’s achievements and initiatives are showcased online.

Under the guidance of Principal Secretary Sanjay Prasad, the policy outlines a strategy to collaborate with media influencers and digital agencies to enhance the visibility of Uttar Pradesh’s developmental initiatives on social media channels such as X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. This move aims to not only enhance the states digital outreach but also create substantial job prospects for residents of Uttar Pradesh especially for those living outside the state.

The newly unveiled policy categorizes influencers, agencies, and firms into four tiers based on the number of their followers or subscribers. Payment to these influencers is scaled according to their category, with the potential earnings ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh per month. This tiered payment system is designed to compensate influencers fairly while encouraging the production of high-quality content about the state’s progress and governance.

Additionally, the policy stresses the significance of upholding decorum and national pride in the content created. It contains measures to take actions against any organization that publishes content deemed objectionable such as anything indecent, obscene or contrary to national interests. This safeguard is established to ensure that all promotional efforts align with the values of the country and contribute positively to the image of the state.

Principal Secretary Prasad underscored that the execution of this policy has the potential to greatly improve job opportunities for numerous individuals working in the media industry. He pointed out that this initiative is part of a larger endeavor to leverage contemporary digital strategies to draw attention to the states progress and to effectively communicate the achievements of the Uttar Pradesh government, on both national and global platforms.

The aim of this initiative is to improve openness and involvement between the government and the public. Through leveraging the influence of figures the Uttar Pradesh government aims to educate citizens and motivate them to actively participate in shaping the development of the state.

The effects of this policy on employment opportunities and the success of the states digital communication approach will be monitored carefully during its rollout. Uttar Pradesh government is dedicated to refining and modifying the policy as necessary to achieve its objectives of enhancing the states online visibility and offering valuable job prospects for its citizens.
