Famous YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, also called MrBeast, has gained attention after hinting he might buy TikTok to prevent it from being banned in the US. TikTok, used by 170 million people in America, could be blocked unless its Chinese owner, ByteDance, sells its US operations by January 19 due to security concerns.
MrBeast’s bold proposal
"Okay, fine, I'll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned," MrBeast posted on X. The tweet quickly went viral, with over 36 million views. He followed up with another tweet: "Unironically, I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this. Let’s see if we can pull this off."
In a TikTok video, MrBeast addressed the company directly, saying, "Just got out of a meeting with a bunch of billionaires. TikTok, we mean business. We have an offer ready for you. America deserves TikTok. Give me a seat at the table."
TikTok faces a serious deadline
The possible TikTok ban comes from a law signed by US President Joe Biden in 2023. This law says ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, must sell its US operations by January 19. If they don’t, TikTok will be banned in the US, and app stores and internet providers won’t be allowed to support it.
The Supreme Court might get involved, but reports say they will probably agree with the law. Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, wants to delay the ban and has asked the Supreme Court to help.
Other prominent figures like Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, and former Activision CEO Bobby Kotick have also shown interest in acquiring TikTok.
MrBeast: The internet sensation
At just 26, MrBeast is the most-subscribed YouTuber, with 841 million subscribers across his channels. Known for stunts and generosity, he recently launched Beast Games, an Amazon TV show where contestants compete for $5 million. Now, he might be looking to add TikTok to his growing list of ventures.
