Singer-actor Selena Gomez seemed undecided about wiping her Instagram account. She declared that she was closing her account on Instagram Stories. But she took down the post shortly after, and the account is still active.

Selena just posted on Instagram

Selena had posted, "I'm taking a break and deleting my Instagram, I'm done." in her Instagram Stories. I do not support any of what's going on.” The Story is no longer in existence.

The comment was made following several days of constant trolling and criticism for her recent handling of the issue between Israel and Palestine. Two days ago, Selena declared in her initial post that she had to take a break from social media. "Because my heart breaks to see all the horror, hate, violence and terror that's going on in the world,” wrote Selena.

Selena Gomez said, "People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific," before stating that "violence needs to be stopped for good" and that "ALL people" need to be protected, "especially children."

In a follow-up post that featured a black and white picture of her younger sister, Gracie Elliott Teefey, Selena wrote that having a sibling has made her more aware of the bad aspects of life. "Having a sister everyday has made me tragically sick," she stated. She continued, "I would do anything for children and innocent lives." Many people on social media took issue with this one comment in particular.

Why did social media mock her?

"Using her sister to play victim," commented one commenter, "I’ve been telling y’all Selena is the most self-centred evil psychopath. she’s always taking break from social media until it’s time to comment on hailey bieber related posts." Another wrote, “Selena gomez has officially lost it how you make genocide about yourself and now your sister like what? you’re a rich woman sleeping in a mansion. She’s such a manipulative and narcissistic person. She’s doing all this while watching the lakers games btw.”

Instagram

Despite having a sizable Instagram following and recently "liking" a pro-Israel post by comedian Amy Schumer, many criticised the Disney Channel alum for adopting a neutral stance on social media.  At the time, a social media user stated, “I love Selena Gomez but this is the saddest excuse of a Instagram story that I've ever seen." While Another wrote, "Selena Gomez is literally the 3rd most followed person on Instagram with almost half a BILLION followers. A post WILL make a difference. This is why I’m annoyed when celebs make a “neutral” statement. They do it only because of their reputation. Not because they genuinely care." This won't be the first time the Only Murders in the Building star has left the site, or at least withdrawn, if she decides to deactivate her account. In a 2019 interview, she gave an explanation for why she frequently wonders if she belongs there. According to CNN, she stated at the Cannes Film Festival, "I think our world is going through a lot, obviously. But for my generation, specifically, social media has been terrible.”
