Elon Musk has told that Twitter will restrict the number of tweets users can read daily. This measure aims to discourage ‘extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.’
Elon Musk, in a recent post, shared that Twitter initially imposed a restriction on verified accounts which require a monthly fee of $8, and was initially restricted to reading 6,000 posts per day. Unverified or free accounts had a limit of 600 posts per day, while new unverified accounts were limited to 300 posts.
However, shortly after the initial announcement, Musk tweeted that the limits would soon increase to 8,000 posts per day for verified accounts, 800 for unverified accounts, and 400 for new unverified accounts. Then, within two hours, Musk further clarified that the rates would be increased to 10,000 posts per day for verified accounts, 1,000 for unverified accounts, and 500 for new unverified accounts.
Musk had also announced Twitter's "temporary emergency measure" which now requires users to have an account to view tweets. He cited concerns about data scraping by numerous organizations, which adversely affected the user experience. The measure aims to address these issues and mitigate the negative impact of excessive data scraping.
Earlier, Elon Musk had expressed dissatisfaction with artificial intelligence firms like OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, for using Twitter's data to train their large language models.
Under Musk's ownership, Twitter took various measures to regain advertisers who had left the platform and enhance subscription revenue, including incorporating verification check marks into the Twitter Blue program.
