The siblings from Dubai - 13-year-old Jainam Jain, his sibling Jivika Jain, 10-years-old-, who recently bought the domain name "jiohotstar.com"- reveal they are willing to give it free of cost to Reliance Industries. According to reports, the domain has made news because the app developer from Delhi allegedly asked for ₹1 crore from Reliance for the site, which the Jain siblings have refused.
Jainam and Jivika exercised their intentions by putting up an official statement on the jiohotstar.com website, saying, “With all the discussions happening, we now think it might be best for Team Reliance to have this domain if they want it. We are happy to give jiohotstar.com to them for free, with all the proper paperwork.”
“To be clear, this is entirely our choice. No one from Reliance or any legal group has contacted us or pressured us in any way. We made this decision on our own, without any pressure from friends, family, or anyone else,” the statement continued.
The siblings also clarified that they had bought the domain initially just to support the original owner and never really intended to sell it for profit. Despite many offers made to them, where people paid an enormous amount of money for the domain, Jainam and Jivika refused to cash in on it. They very clearly declared that their intentions were purely to support and had no motives of benefit.
This act of generosity by two entrepreneurial young souls has captured attention and appreciation, especially in a world where business deals and negotiations can often be complicated. Now, whether Reliance Industries will accept their offer remains to be seen, but the Jain siblings’ actions have certainly left a positive impact.
What is the JioHotstar controversy?
The JioHotstar controversy began when an unknown app developer from Delhi offered the JioHotstar domain for more than ₹1 crore to Reliance Industries in a bid to utilize that money and fund his executive MBA at Cambridge University in the UK. He bought the domain in 2023, after rumours that Jio Cinema and Hotstar might merge into JioHotstar.
He decided to sell the domain since the expected consolidation was likely to go through this year, and he contemplated using it as an opportunity to raise funds to finance his studies. Reliance Industries declined negotiations, said PTI. The domain eventually went to Dubai-based siblings Jainam and Jivika, who claim to have purchased it as "part of efforts to support and uplift others".
