Astronauts who went to space have reportedly seen some strange things beyond Earth — including UFOs! According to Anita Mitchell, the wife of late NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell, many astronauts have seen unusual objects while in space. Anita shared these details in an interview with Daily Mail, sharing that Edgar, who was part of the Apollo 14 mission and the sixth person to walk on the moon in 1971, believed that "something was out there."
Anita said that these UFO sightings happened during America’s early space missions. Apollo astronaut James McDivitt was one of those who claimed to have seen UFOs while in space. Even while flying regular planes over Earth, astronauts reported seeing strange objects.
Anita recalled a party where Leroy Gordon Cooper Jr., a Project Mercury astronaut, shared his own experience. She said, "I remember Gordy telling us that he had seen something. He said it was extremely fast and that they had nothing 'that goes that fast and goes that high.” Cooper, who was one of NASA’s most experienced pilots, admitted that American pilots could never catch these fast-moving objects.
Anita said that the astronauts she met believed that there was "something there technology-wise" in space. Even she believes that life exists beyond Earth.
Anita’s book, You Don’t Look Like An Astronaut’s Wife, reveals that Edgar Mitchell wanted the U.S. government to release information about these strange sightings to the public. He believed they might be linked to alien life. In 2009, Mitchell publicly called on the government to share what it knew about UFOs.
He once asked, "Do you really think we are the only intelligence in the universe? Because if we are, the universe is in trouble."
Anita also shared what it was like to be married to an astronaut. She said that being an astronaut’s wife was like living "in a different universe" and that she loved being part of that world.
