Could robots think like humans? New research says it’s possible

Imagine a future where robots can understand humans feelings and think for themselves. Sounds like science fiction, right? but researchers from King’s College London think it could actually happen. They’ve found a way to help robots think by giving them difficult tasks to do without needing electricity. This might sound unbelievable, but it could completely change the way robots work in the future.

According to the researchers, the key to giving robots thinking abilities is by using their “brain” in a more efficient way. Instead of relying on electricity and computer chips like most robots do today, they suggest robots should take on more complex tasks that can free up space in their robotic brain. This would allow them to process more information and think more clearly, much like humans do.

Dr. Antonio Forte, a senior author of the study and lecturer at King’s College London, explained that by assigning tasks to different parts of the robot’s body, the robot’s brain can have more space to think. This could lead to robots being more aware of their surroundings and better at understanding social situations. This kind of thinking ability could be incredibly useful in fields like social care and manufacturing, where robots could assist humans in more meaningful ways.

A future without constant power

One of the most exciting things about this discovery is that these thinking robots could work in places that don’t have electricity. In many poor countries, getting reliable electricity is a big problem, and robots that need power all the time can’t work well. But if robots could think without needing electricity, they could help in places where normal robots can’t function.

Dr. Forte said that even though AI and software have improved a lot, the physical parts of robots (the hardware) haven’t improved as much. He compared it to how your brain doesn’t need to tell your heart to beat. Similarly, in robots, the hardware could handle some tasks on its own without the brain controlling everything.

The growing dependency on robots: Is it good for the future?

While using AI and robots can make life easier, relying too much on them might not be healthy for the future. It can make us lazy and stop us from using our creativity and talents. AI should help, but not take over everything. Nowadays, children also depend on AI for studies, neglecting books for knowledge, which is a worrying sign.
