Condoms have become a campaign tool in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, with both key parties distributing packets with party-branded condom packets to the public.

A video has gone viral on social media, showing condom packs marked with symbols of either party, the ruling YSR Congress Party and the leading opposition, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), allegedly being distributed by party cadres to voters.

In one of the videos, when a man, purportedly a TDP worker, was asked why condoms were being distributed, he can be heard replying, 'If many children are there, more money has to be distributed, that's why these condoms are being distributed'.

The condom packets were part of a kit distributed to the public by party leaders conducting door-to-door campaigns for the Lok Sabha polls.

However, both parties slammed each other for distributing condoms, despite each of them doing the same. YSRCP, taking to X (formerly Twitter), has called out the TDP, asking how low will the party stoop.

'Distributing condoms to people for their party campaign. What kind of publicity madness is this? Will they start giving out Viagra next? At least stop there. Otherwise, it will only worsen the decline,' Jagan Mohan Reddy's party said. In response, the TDP posted a similar condom pack with the YSRCP logo, asking if this is the 'preparedness 'siddam' the party was talking about. Siddam is the term in Telugu used for Jagan Mohan Reddy's political campaigns."
