Suspended Mumbai cop Sachin Waze has now dropped a 'letter bomb' and accused Maharashtra cabinet minister and Shiv Sena minister Anil Parab in an extortion racket row.
N A letter he tried to submit to the Special NIA Court on Wednesday, Sachin Waze supported former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh’s allegations against ex-home minister Anil Deshmukh, while also levelling charges against Transport Minister Anil Parab of the Shiv Sena.
Waze alleged that Parab had asked him to initiate talks with a trust facing an inquiry and to get Rs 50 crore from the trustees to close the probe, as well as asked for collections from alleged fraudulent contractors on a BMC list.
Waze, who has been in the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) custody since March 13, on Wednesday, April 7, through a handwritten application, claimed that he was pressurised by Deshmukh to pay Rs 2 crore to be reinstated in duty. Waze, who was suspended for close to 16 years following his involvement in a series of extrajudicial killings, was reinstated amid COVID- 19 crisis in the state last year.
Waze’s Counsel tried to submit the statement to Additional Sessions Judge PR Sitre, who declined to take the statement on record and directed Waze to give a statement u/s 164 of CrPC.
Vaze further claimed that he was summoned to Sahyadri Guest House by Deshmukh in October 2020, where he was asked to collect Rs 3-3.5 lakh from 1,650 Mumbai bars and restaurants, an order Vaze claims he refused to adhere to, and also told Deshmukh that there were only 200 bars in the area.
The letter notes that this demand was repeated in January 2021 in Deshmukh’s official bungalow, where his PA Kundan was allegedly present.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has alleged that this was a 'political conspiracy' to topple the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. "There have been efforts from day one to topple the Maharashtra government. The faces of those who are trying to topple the government are coming to light. A new tactic has come to light wherein people who are in jail write letters...People in jail write letters and they are considered as evidence. This is substandard politics," he added.
Anil Parab also refuted the allegations and said that they were incorrect and aimed at maligning his image. He also expressed readiness to face any probe.
