In an interview with IANS this Monday, PM Modi gave a sharp reply on a Pakistani leader's support for the opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal.
When asked about the matter PM responded by saying it is a "very serious matter and calls for an investigation". "I don't think I should comment on such topics from the position I am in, but I can understand your concern", he added.
As the voting proceeded in Delhi over the weekend, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, the former Pakistan Minister, praised Arvind Kejriwal commenting on a photo of him, to which he got a rebuff from the Delhi CM. Chaudhary has recently posted a video praising Rahul Gandhi, which triggered a political battle in the country.
Responding to this PM Modi told IANS, "I don't know why only a few people are liked by those who have enmity with us, why there are only a few people in whose support voices are raised from there"
Accepting the seriousness of the situation PM said Indian voters are mature enough and some gaslighting statements from the other side of the border won't affect the voting in India.
"The election is of India and India's democracy is very mature, has healthy traditions and the voters of India are also not the voters who are influenced by any outside activities," the PM said.
Chaudhary, the former minister in Imran Khan's cabinet previously, responded to the interim bail of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal via a post on X captioning "Modi G Lost another battle #Kejriwal released… good news for moderate India."
Following this, he commented on a photo posted by Kejriwal where he was seen with his family at the polling booth, the comment read "May peace and harmony defeat forces of hate and extremism #MorePower #IndiaElection2024".
Delhi CM responded to it sharply saying, "Chaudhry Sahib, I and the people of my country are capable of solving our own problems. We don't need your tweet. Right now, Pakistan is in a terrible state. You handle your own country."
