Acharya Pramod Krishnam, once part of the Congress leadership, disclosed on Monday that Rahul Gandhi had indicated a desire to challenge the Supreme Court’s decision on the Ramjanmabhoomi case if the Congress were to gain power. He mentioned that Rahul Gandhi proposed creating a commission to reverse the Ram temple verdict. This proposal was made in reference to a previous event where a Supreme Court judgment was overturned.

Leader’s Objections

In the wake of Acharya Pramod Krishnam's criticism of the Congress party's absence from the Ram Mandir's consecration ceremony, he was expelled from the party in February 2024 due to alleged indiscipline and constant criticism. After his expulsion, he sought clarification from the party leaders on the exact reasons for his removal, questioning whether actions such as revering Lord Ram or visiting Ayodhya were against the party's principles. Additionally, he disagreed with several of the party's positions, including opposing the removal of Article 370 and supporting statements by DMK leaders that he felt disparaged Hinduism. Despite his unsuccessful bid for a parliamentary seat in 2019, he remained vocal about his disagreements.

Controversial Commission Proposal

In an interview with CNN-News18, Acharya Pramod Krishnam mentioned that Rahul Gandhi had informed his close associates about the possibility of a 'Superpower Commission' that could override the Supreme Court's verdict on the Ayodhya case. Rahul Gandhi cited the Shah Bano case as a precedent for such a commission. The Shah Bano case was a legal dispute involving a Muslim woman's right to alimony, which led to a controversial legislative act by the then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's government to negate the Supreme Court's ruling. This act was criticized for yielding to conservative pressures and was seen as a political move to win over Muslim voters.
