Union minister Rajnath Singh said that the opposition's disruptions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech "shredded" parliamentary decorum, and the Lok Sabha adopted a resolution denouncing them on Tuesday. Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, moved the motion following the prime minister's speech.
"The manner in which the Opposition shredded parliamentary norms when the PM was speaking on the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, I propose that the House condemns this action," Rajnath Singh stated.
Speaker Om Birla of the Lok Sabha chastised opposition politicians as well, stating that their conduct did not conform to parliamentary procedures.
All members received enough time from me. The opposition leader was given more than ninety minutes by me, but this is not how parliamentary procedures should be followed," he stated.
Amit Shah, the home minister, sponsored the resolution, which was approved by voice vote.
Opposition lawmakers pressed the speaker to give a Manipur MP a chance to speak as soon as the prime minister stood up to speak.
Birla added that one of them had already been given a chance to speak when two Manipur MPs and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi hurried to the House Well. Subsequently, a number of Congress MPs entered the well with the backing of TMC members who stood in the aisles.
Rahul Gandhi was also reprimanded by Speaker Birla for inviting opposition members to go down the well.
During the prime minister's speech, opposition MPs chanted phrases like "jhooth bole kauwa kaate" and "we want justice for Manipur."
