National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took an oath to become the chief minister of J&K as the union territory got its first govt in six years. 

A total of 5 MLAs including an independent, were sworn in as cabinet ministers with no Congress representation in the new government.

The five MLAs who took oath were - Satish Sharma (Independent), Sakina Itoo, Javid Dar, Sunrinder Chowdhury, and Javid Rana (all from the National Conference).

Omar Abdullah, who takes over as chief minister for a second term is the third generation of the Abdullah family to occupy the office after his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah, and father Farooq Abdullah.

Abdullah has been unanimously elected leader of the NC Legislature Party. His first term as chief minister was from 2009 to 2014 when Jammu and Kashmir was a full-fledged state.

At the Sheri-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath to Omar Abdulla. The event was attended by many Indian bloc leaders like Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. 

This will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the repealing of Article 370 and the reorganization of the former state into two Union Territories.
