Separate talks between the opposition INDI Alliance and the BJP-led NDA are scheduled for today in the nation's capital to talk about their future plans. The discussions between NDA and INDI are expected to shape the political landscape significantly.
Leading NDA figures, such as JDU chairman Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, are expected to get together on Wednesday to discuss the specifics of the government formation process and assess the outcome of the Lok Sabha election.
Leading figures from the BJP and its other partners are also anticipated to attend the meeting, which Kumar and Naidu are scheduled to attend.
NDA and INDI: Future Plans and Coalition Dynamics in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
In the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, but it was unable to obtain the necessary 272 votes for a majority.
But the BJP is ready to lay claim to forming government led by Prime Minister Modi for a third time in a row, with the backing of TDP (16 seats), JDU (12 seats), and other allies of the NDA.
The NDA leaders are anticipated to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his upcoming record-breaking third term in office and to go over the specifics of the new government with him. The new government is anticipated to be different in composition and character, with a larger share for the BJP's allies.
Even though they are well short of the necessary numbers at this point, members of the INDI Alliance will get together to discuss plans for the unlikely prospect of forming a central government.
For the INDI Alliance summit, a number of prominent political figures, including Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar of the NCP, will converge in the nation's capital.
The BJP needed a complete majority in order to maintain its power after a decade of robust rule. The coalition constituted the government even though the Congress party only won 145 and 206 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2009, respectively.
This is not the first time that a coalition has created the government.
Governments have also been formed through coalitions and deceit before then; the BJP was the first party to lead a coalition for an entire five-year term.
A coalition government is beneficial for democracy overall, but it presents a challenge when it comes to making some significant and audacious national decisions because such actions also require the approval of the affiliated parties.
