Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested his supporters to remove the "Modi Ka Parivar" tag from their social media usernames, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The campaign, which gained immense traction in the months leading up to the elections, was initially launched as a response to a political jab by former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi acknowledged the power of the campaign, stating, "Through the election campaign, people across India added 'Modi Ka Parivar' to their social media as a mark of affection towards me. I derived a lot of strength from it." He further emphasized the success of the campaign in solidifying the BJP's victory, stating, "The people of India have given the NDA a majority for the third consecutive time, a record of sorts, and have given us the mandate to keep working for the betterment of our nation."
However, PM Modi also indicated a shift in messaging, stating, "With the message of all of us being one family having been effectively conveyed, I would once again thank the people of India and request that you may now remove 'Modi Ka Parivar' from your social media properties. The display name may change, but our bond as one Parivar striving for India's progress remains strong and unbroken."
The "Modi Ka Parivar" campaign was a direct response to a remark by Yadav, who had criticized PM Modi for prioritizing his "family" over national interests. The BJP swiftly turned the political attack into a rallying cry, urging supporters to adopt the "Modi Ka Parivar" label as a symbol of their solidarity with the Prime Minister and his policies.
This strategy mirrored the BJP's successful utilization of the "Chowkidaar chor hai" slogan during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's attack on PM Modi, accusing him of corruption, was countered by the BJP with the "Mai bhi Chowkidaar" campaign, which resonated with social media users and further solidified the party's presence online.
The success of both campaigns demonstrates the BJP's ability to effectively leverage political attacks and turn them into viral social media campaigns. These campaigns have undoubtedly played a crucial role in shaping the party's political narrative and mobilizing support amongst its online base.
