MK Stalin visits the United States, where he engaged in discussions with global tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft. The visit, which aimed at positioning Tamil Nadu as a leading hub for technology and manufacturing in Asia, has already begun to yield significant results, particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced manufacturing.
During his visit, Chief Minister Stalin met with top executives at the headquarters of Apple, Google, and Microsoft, exploring various avenues for collaboration that could drive economic growth and technological innovation in TN. Sharing his experiences on X (formerly Twitter), Stalin described the visit as “awe-inspiring” and expressed his determination to make Tamil Nadu “one of the foremost growth engines of Asia.”
One of the most notable outcomes of Stalin’s visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ scheme. This aimed at skilling two million youth in Tamil Nadu in artificial intelligence. The partnership with Google will also focus on establishing AI labs in the state, creating a AI ecosystem that empowers individuals, businesses, and government entities.
As part of the MoU, Google will collaborate with the Tamil Nadu government’s nodal agency for investment promotion, Guidance, to enable AI start-up development, MSME support, and industrial ecosystem enhancement.
Chief Minister Stalin’s discussions with Google also included the expansion of the production of Pixel 8 phones in Tamil-Nadu and the potential launch of other Google products and technology facilities in the state. “We are happy to collaborate with Google on advanced manufacturing, including the recently announced Made in India Pixel 8 phone being manufactured in Tamil Nadu.
The MoU signed today will explore key AI initiatives under the Tamil Nadu AI Labs,” said Dr. TRB Rajaa, Minister of Industries. Amit Zavery, Head of Platform at Google Cloud, echoed this sentiment, stated, “We’re thrilled to partner with the Tamil-Nadu Government on their journey towards an AI-powered future. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to fostering inclusive growth and technological progress through AI.”
As part of the collaboration, Google will also work closely with Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem, offering mentorship and networking opportunities with industry leaders. The Google for Startups program will provide eligible AI startups with cloud credits, technical training, and business support to accelerate their growth. Additionally, Google and its partners will assist Tamil Nadu’s MSMEs in leveraging AI through streamlined access to Google’s AI technologies on open networks, automating processes, enhancing decision-making, and promoting innovation.
