Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted yesterday that she is under house arrest and the administration's "fake claims of normalcy" have been exposed. Mufti was not allowed to leave her home for a visit to Kulgam in south Kashmir.
There has been no official response from the administration on Mufti's house arrest.
The announcement follows Mufti's statement the day before saying that the last rites of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who died on September 01, should have been performed according to family wishes.
Mufti had, on Monday, lashed out at the government for not allowing separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s family to conduct his last rites.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said that most of the restrictions have been eased including the internet services and the situation is fully normal in the union territory. "Most of the restrictions are eased including the Internet and situation is fully normal in both regions of Kashmir and Jammu but under close watch," police tweeted.
Following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that accorded special status to the erstwhile state, Mehbooba Mufti and other prominent leaders of Kashmir were placed in detention in 2019.
