BSP head Mayawati has harshly criticized Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi after he spoke about reservations during an event at Georgetown University in the US. Gandhi stated that if anyone wants to abolish reservation in India, it would only be possible when India becomes truly a fair country, implying that presently India is not a fair country by any means. In response, Mayawati criticizes RaGa for his remarks, highlighting her concerns about his perspective on the issue.

In her eyes, those comments of Gandhi were not that of a man who is boring but actually showed the Congress party having another motive. To this, she told the audience that while Congress was in office it did not fit OBC reservation properly and also complained that no caste census was conducted. Hitting on Rahul Gandhi’s recent move to ask for census on caste, Mayawati said that what he is trying to do is completely unjustified and politically motivated.

Mayawati was particular to SC, ST, and OBC communities and called Gandhi’s statement as dangerous and claimed that Congress, should they come to power, would remove reservation under the masquerade of being fair. She also told people that Congress party was historically against providing reservation, and she also quoted Dr. B. R. Ambedkar who resigned as Law Minister of the Congress led government. Ambedkar who was the chairman of drafting Constitutional committee and founder of the Dalit Politics despite his efforts they did not accept him as Dalit King left when reservation was not properly implemented.

In between the BSP leader continued to stress on the issue of the reservations for the social equality in India. However, Mayawati stated that exploitation in the basis of caste is still dominant and for this reason the SC, the ST and the OBC communities remain most vulnerable. None the less, she categorically declared that the reservation system had to remain in present at least so long as caste prejudice remained in the society.

During March 2014, on social networking site ‘X’, Mayawati cautioned the Dalits and other backward classes that Congress had anti-reservation stance which can harm their prospects. In response she reaffirmed her belief to respect the provisions of the constitution on reservation until equality is achieved in the country.
