Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, currently under scrutiny by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee regarding the cash-for-query issue in Parliament, explained that she provided her Parliament login credentials to her "friend" and businessman, Darshan Hiranandani, to have him assist in typing the questions she intended to pose in the Lok Sabha. She clarified that after inputting the question, a one-time password (OTP) is sent to her mobile phone, and only upon providing the OTP is the question submitted.

During her first interview since the cash-for-query controversy arose, Mahua Moitra stated, "Someone in Darshan Hiranandani's office typed the question which I gave on the Parliament website. After putting the question, they would call me to inform and I would read all the questions in one go as I am always busy in my constituency. So, the idea that Darshan would log in to my ID and put in questions of his own is ludicrous."

This statement was in response to Darshan Hiranandi, who had issued a "sworn affidavit" claiming that Mahua Moitra had shared her Parliament login and password with him so he could post questions on her behalf.

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has summoned Mahua to appear before it on November 2 in connection with the case.

These latest developments emerged after Mahua Moitra acknowledged in a television interview on Friday that her Parliament login had been with Darshan Hiranandani since 2019, but she clarified that the questions were drafted by her.

During the interview, Mahua Moitra displayed the interior designs of her government accommodation provided by Darshan and refuted claims that he funded the renovation of her house. She also called for a list of items that Darshan Hiranandani allegedly gifted her, emphasizing that all she received from her industrialist friend were a scarf, make-up items, and car pick-up and drop service in Mumbai.
